Description
The cool metal of Jean's sword pressed against her palm, the blade sinking into the earth. The weight of the blade felt odd in her hand, unfamiliar and unwieldy. So many times she had watched it dance through the air, wielded as if it was as light as the air, as it met the wood of her baton and sometimes her flesh. It had been an exhilarating, terrifying dance they had repeated so many times, both having each move memorized, as they struggled for an advantage over the other. The sword had been something alive, its gleam holding in it something of the grin of its wielder, fierce and cruel and defiant.
Now it was merely a piece of metal, beautifully crafted, but dead. She knew she never would see it dance like that again in the Falcon's hands.
Queens, mercenaries, crimelords, nobles... They all came and went. The government seemed to change with each season, sometimes.
Astrid remained.
